Chemical Treatment Technician

At Sibanye-Stillwater, every role supports our mission to operate safely, responsibly, and sustainably. We are seeking a Chemical Treatment Technician to support precious metal recovery operations through chemical processing, material analysis, and safe handling of industrial chemicals.
This role focuses on performing chemical reactions, recovering precious metals from various source materials, and supporting wastewater treatment and process improvements while ensuring compliance with safety and environmental standards.
Job Purpose
Perform chemical processing and recovery of precious metals from various materials while supporting safe laboratory and production operations.
Key Responsibilities
• Perform chemical reactions in laboratory and production environments
• Sample, recover, and analyze materials for precious metal content
• Conduct filtration, dissolution, and recovery of precious metals using acids, bases, or cyanide processes
• Maintain and clean laboratory instruments and processing equipment
• Safely handle hazardous chemicals in accordance with safety protocols
• Maintain detailed records of batch and job information
• Assist wastewater treatment operations using cyanide oxidation and acid neutralization
• Support development of improved methods and technologies for precious metal recovery
• Observe chemical and physical processes and recommend operational improvements
• Assist in equipment installation, modification, and process improvements
• Review and update standard operating procedures
• Identify opportunities to improve quality control and process efficiency
• Support other operations within the Chemical Treatment Department as needed
Qualifications
• High School Diploma or GED required
• At least two years of experience handling chemicals preferred
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Basic computer knowledge including Microsoft Office programs
• All levels of experience will be considered
Compliance and Physical Requirements
• Must meet ITAR and NAID requirements
• Ability to pass background check, drug screening, and medical clearance
• Ability to work on feet in a production environment for extended periods
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and move 55 gallon drums
• Ability to safely perform essential job functions in accordance with applicable workplace standards
